ADAC PV Charging Solution Test 2023: Clear Test Win for the Fronius Wattpilot Home 11 J

E-mobility

18/12/2023

We’re test winners! At the end of October, the German Automobile Club (ADAC) tested eight charging stations for photovoltaic systems for the first time. The cheapest model in the test was also the best.

Our Fronius Wattpilot Home 11 J performed especially well with its comprehensive range of features including automatic and integrated 1-/3-phase switching, the best app in the test, and the lowest standby consumption.

Maximizing the use of surplus solar power

Charging your own electric vehicle using solar power from your roof requires a special charging station for maximum efficiency. The ADAC responded by taking a close look at eight models that were technically designed for this purpose for the first time.

The Fronius Wattpilot Home 11 J offers an especially sustainable and cost-effective way of charging your electric vehicle using surplus power from your own roof. Self-generated solar power that is not needed in the house flows directly into your vehicle.

Driving electric vehicles with power from your own photovoltaic system is not just “the cleanest, but also the cheapest option”, as the ADAC explained in its test. The automobile club went on to explain that an electric vehicle also gives you a faster return on your PV system because the costs of generating the power are lower.

Cheapest charging station wins:
Fronius Wattpilot Home 11 J

Our Fronius Wattpilot Home 11 J has come out the clear winner in the ADAC test, where it was the cheapest charging station for surplus PV charging. It makes maximum use of even the smallest amounts of surplus energy starting at 1.38 kW and automatically switches between 1 and 3 phases.

Solar.wattpilot, the best app in the ADAC test, offers an easy and convenient way to use the Fronius Wattpilot. The app lets you smoothly operate the charging station via a smartphone or tablet. It also gives you a clear overview of all charging data and lets you select the charging modes—Eco Mode and Next Trip Mode—at any time and from any location.

Charging stations are in standby mode most of the time, waiting for the next charge. So the amount of energy the device needs in standby makes a big difference. The Fronius Wattpilot Home 11 J also impressed in this area and had the lowest consumption of any model in the ADAC test.

The perfect combination:
photovoltaics and e-mobility

More and more people are using a climate-friendly, cost-efficient way of getting around that enables them to combine photovoltaics and e-mobility.

As the owner of a photovoltaic system, you can rely on the Fronius Wattpilot to charge your electric vehicle with your own surplus power for next to nothing. Our charging station offers especially intelligent and flexible charging thanks to two different modes: Eco Mode is for those looking to use a combination of PV surplus charging and variable electricity tariffs for an especially efficient charge. Next Trip Mode is ideal if you want to provide your electric vehicle with a reliable supply of energy as cheaply as possible over a certain distance and up to a certain point in time.

If you are using your self-generated electricity not just for heating, cooling, and operating electrical appliances, but also for charging your electric vehicle, you are increasing your self-consumption. Our Fronius products offer you smart solutions for the different applications of solar energy and make the power of the sun available around the clock in any season. Together, we are thus playing an important role in an emissions-free future and are making our vision of 24 hours of sun a reality.
